Couple of questions though.....
The material is about 2.5mm. I'm using a torch switch (don't have a foot pedal).
I seem to get better results using a 1.6mm grey tungsten with 2.4mm filler rod than I do with 2.4 electrode. At higher amps (around 90, the 1.6 electrode does get a bit damaged on the end but still seems to give better results than 2.4). Is this normal? I've been tacking up with a 2.4 electrode (about 140 amps) and then swapping to a 1.6 for the weld, starting some where about 100 amps but dropping down for each run as the material warms up.
Obviously I still occasionally dip the electrode in the pool or foul it up with the filler. I have been snapping the contaminated bit of the electrode off and then regrinding - is this necessary or can I just sharpen the tip each time?
At the moment I am doing all of my welding by moving my wrist and also unable to feed the filler rod through my fingers. Seems ok for short welds but I guess I will have a problem with long runs - should I worry about this yet?
i am also not really sure how to terminate a run - for example at the intersection of an open corner joint on a box. Any tips greatly appreciated!
I copied the settings on the video, so 60 on the balance. Not really sure what it does. I played around swinging it 10 or so each way but at the moment tig isn't consistent enough to know if the differences are due to the settings or me!

I tend to Just keep it simple and swap out at 100 amps or there abouts.
Like Brad said it’s quite important your balance is set up well particularly for 1.6 or you’ll melt it away. A good machine will ball up that tungsten really nicely and even and if it does a nice job of that you should hang on to decent stability.

60% is on the low side really especially for 1.6.
Set it at around 70-75.

I think it keeps the slopes because you can set the pedal minimum power to like 50% or 70% or whatever, so that it has enough control for the weld with less pedal sensitivity, otherwise when welding thick material you would always have say a full 3-220 amp stroke on the pedal, with the slope up/down still active you can have a 110-220 amp pedal stroke with it set at 50% to make it less sensitive to movement, and still have slope to 3 amp at the end of the weld.
