ERFI welder broken wire speed pot

wire speed pot broken 50K pot 3 legs two legs soldered together
so only two wires to pot can see 50K on one side of pot the wire speed on this was a bit sharp
would i be better with a 1ohm pot on this or not

when you finish welding with this welder if you touch the torck to earth you get a flash could the bleed cap be us is it the little round bit pictured

Replace the pot with the same value. From 50k (50,000) ohms to 1 ohm is a big jump, and you'll only get 1/50,000 of the speed range. The circuit diagram would be a help here.

If you're getting a small spark after you stop welding the capacitor on the output is working properly. If it worries you, you can wire a resistor across the welding connection to the torch and earth.

PS - you could try wiring a 10k pot in series with the existing pot, this will give you 20% fine adjustment.

sorry no circuit diagrams welder was made in 1988 even from new the wire speed was a bit all or nothing
hence the request about the pot
