Hi i know this comes up all the time (What is best acid etch or epoxy primer) but as i have recently started to do more bare metal re paints and restos than accident repairs now i have gone self employed i want to know your honnest opinions.
I have always used acid etch on bare metal but now im doing full bare metal jobs which require filler work im thinking of taking the epoxy route. I have been told by a top restorer using this on clean bare metal before any filler work, seals the metal off giving the ultimate in corrosion protection whereas filler is porous and not anti corrosive. I have searched about it and it seems a lot of restorers use epoxy and moderen bodyshops us etch because epoxy on accident repair isnt cost effective. Im lead to believe after baking epoxy so its egg shell hard it has a better bond with filler than to bare metal. And if a job sits for a week it wont flash rust.
I dont want a group argument just your views Thanks.
