Epco Trolley Jack

Hi,

Stripped the hydraulic ram to fit new seals. Took out the two bungs near the resevoir filler cap. When I stood it up on the bench to drain the oil out of it I noticed two ball bearings in the oil and I dont know where they came from, which way back they go in and I never saw any springs, should there be?

Can anyone provide a diagram or tell me where they go??

In answer to your question... no.

...but, it's good, and wise, to question it!

The info you're seeking will depend on what year & model of jack you have. Unfortunately Epco (UK) went bust in the 90's. Try emailing these companies, below, for schematics & for likely sources of further info...

If you don't know the model, try a google image search for "epco" (et al) to help nail it down...

You may be able to see the inside of the reservoir camber, through the filler holes with a small mirror and torch, (or endoscope - frosts do one) to determine if indeed these balls are effectively gravity held non-return valves, or, if there are other parts still roaming inside...

Investigate the situation anyway you can, until you are sure that the equipment is operating correctly & safely. If this cannot be determined, either put it in for a professional service, or buy new. There's no second chances with replacing life.

nb. Always use jacks with axle stands, no exceptions...
