Ive sort of decided I need more rpm in my spindle to do intricate engraving and carving in wood, 3000rpm tops on my cnc mill doesnt cut it but I dont want to dedicate it to it either, I like the grunt in the 2hp motor setup.
This is the problem, when cutting wood, its torn in appearance.
So, auxillary spindle time. Low budget stylee.
Carve it out of ally I had stashed under the bench and added a m5 pinch round the back that I did by cross drilling in the drill press and sawing out a clearance slot for the pinch on the vertical bandsaw, so coudlnt be arsed putting it in the cad drawing. Spindle is a super cheap 30,000rpm laminate trimmer off the bay.
Works alright. This was carved with a drill bit because i was too impatient to make a proper engraving bit up in the diameter to match the collet on the trimmer. Its the same pattern as the first picture before I hit e-stop because it was about to drive into the clamp Id just nipped the test piece up with hurridly.
Whats really got me chuffed is I started making it this morning and I kept having to do odds and sods for the family in between, almost eligable for tea break tools
