I imagine that putting it under load will be the tricky thing which you would want to do to test out the entire map rather than just the no load case.
If by test bed you mean something to mount and run the engine on then I'm doing this on my GT6 engine. I plan to run it in the stand to troubleshoot any leaks etc. then mount it in the car.View attachment 206009
The idea is to mock up the engine, get it working and then swap into the car, get it running in the car and then do a rolling road. Just an idea at this stage and maybe more work than needed but was seeing if anyone had actual experience with building and using one. I have an old knackered engine so might just end up building up the external and get running in the car once I have all the parts.
Anyone made or have a engine test bed? Much involved in making one? Want to test an engine with FI and carb setups as a bit of a side project.
I wired a dyno up at cummins diesel .engines were connected to a large waterpump by a prop shaft had a 100gallon water tank and a large radiator for cooling, rev counters heat censors the full lot connected to the computers for analysis . once run up to speed they pumped water round the system there was a big gate valve electricaly operated that they slowly closed and put the engine under more pressure to pump the water and made it work hard and readings taken. god it was noisy .engine was a 12 cylinder out of a massive dragline from the quarryI was in a place that rebuilds commercial and marine engines and they used a hydraulic pump off of an excavator or similar machine to load engines being tested or run in on the bench.
