engine stand

have aquired 4x3ft lengths of 75x50mmx3mm box.
will this be heavy duty enough to make a frame for an engine stand?

have got the rd tube.

planning on making frame with two legs one either side as its going to hold landy engines.

The stand I had when I rebuilt my Esprit engine was made out of something a lot lighter than that and it was robust enough.

I think the Merrick design shown here with the extra bracing will be far stiffer and more confidence inspiring. Especially important when you want to swing on some high torque bolts such as cylinder head or crank pulley.

I looked at that and thought the mounting plate didn't look all that.

My friend recently built his own engine stand for the purposes of rebuilding Fergie tractor engines. 20 and 23c Engines need the crank to be removed from the flywheel end. So the engines stand is set-up to be able to mount the engine block from one side, 90deg from what most proprietary stands work on.

It's certainly something I'd consider as it makes it possible to remove and refit flywheel, clutch and crankshaft oil seals whilst the engine is on the stand.
