Engine Dressing ? Pledge

Hi Guys, I'm finally putting my old Kit car back together and am looking for something to spray over the engine bay to try and protect it over the winter months as unfortunately it lives in a cold and sometimes damp garage. The engine bay is a mix of painted surfaces, polished aluminium, metal components, rubber hoses, electrical terminals, cables, etc all the usual stuff you'd find on old car (engine and ancilliaries are triumph straight six from a 69 vitesse ).

Looking about on google for a suitable product, (I had thought WD40 but wondered if there was something else), I came across a number of posts by Bikers using Pledge furniture polish on their bikes for this purpose, and this seemed ideal as it won't damage anything and as the paintworks all done I'm not worried about silicone. Has anyone used pledge for this purpose or can you recommend anything else.

P.s I know it's a triumph so once I start using it the leaking oil will protect it

GT85 is recomended for bicycle protection because it dries but leaves a protective coating.

I use pledge to pollish my Triumph (bike not car) and Its superb but never heard of ot used for a protective layer.
When I were into jetskis I always sprayed the engine bay with WD40 after a day out. Works very well and you dont get anything damper than inside a Jetski hull unless its new and never seen a wave.

I use Aerospace 303 but read that AutoGlym Trim dressing is good.

I've also used AutoSmart Kril on a triplex ride-on mower to very good effect in the past and it might suit your purposes better than the others.

Cheers guys, I appreciate the responses, had a quick look at that ACF 50 and the manufacturers blurb makes it sound the dogs! not discounting the other suggestions though as havent looked into them yet, what sort of finish does ACF50 Leave ? is it a wet gloss film or does it evaporate.

ACF50 is a great product.
I use it on my compressor that's kept in a small hut at the side out the house - can be a little damp, but it's showing zero sign of rust.
Also great for tools, and really anything else that my get rust if kept in a damp shed etc.

ACF 50 Applied

Well the postie arrived this morning with a nice large aerosol tin of acf 50 for me so I fired up the heater in the garage and set too fitting my new high torque starter, refitted the su carbs and linkages and then prepared the engine bay ready for treating. I put the aerosol in a bucket of hot water as apparently it sprays better when warm and left it while I gave everything a wipe over with a microfibre and some panel wipe as I read that it adheres to and works better on clean surfaces.

Despite pre heating and shaking the hell out of it I was a bit dissappointed with the atomization from the tin as the product was not propelled very well and came out as a jet rather than a mist and having watched a you tube video on applying this stuff a thin layer applied as a fine mist is what you want for it to get into all the nooks and crannies and do its stuff.

After some pondering it was dispensed via the nozzle into a paint mixing cup and when I thought it safe to do so I started to cut the top off the tin with a hacksaw ( big mistake as it sprays far better from a large cut in the tin than it does from the nozzle ) luckily the paint cup was nearby and the can was quicly inverted into this and the contents saved.

I fired up the compressor set the pressure to eighty psi and sprayed the engine and bulkhead with the fluid in a mini gravity gun, applied this way it went on perfectly a really superfine mist and the entire engine bay only used a very small amount, spurred on I gave all the chassis rails, the gearbox, suspension, below dash wiring and back of instruments a spray over.
Hopefully everythings well protected from any dampness and if it's half as good as claimed I'm happy that neither the car, the garage nor myself will show any signs of corrosion during the damp winter months
