I took my manifold off the 320d to do a swirl flap removal. The inlet holes on the plastic manifold were reduced to the size of a 5p. Inside was like a black cavernous cave of carbon build up on all the plastic webbing. I had to use tooth brushes and generic kitchen cleaner at the time but it was caked solid. I’ve since heard Aldi’s oven cleaner is the way to go, very strong stuff, comes with its own gloves and bag for sealing in the trays. I’d try that next time.
I blanked my EGR after that and got a constant fault code. From my research it wasnt possible to prevent this in the ECU as there was many systems inter-connecting each other in the software and removing it from one could break another. Not worth faffing with. An inch of black masking tape over the EML on the cluster and a wink/nod to the MOT tester if your familiar with him
