Something sounds really wrong there, I live in a reasonable size old farm house and we've used maybe £350 in oil since the summer. We do have a wood burner, the heating in on twice a day in the winter sometime all day at the weekend or if someone is at home. We don't have the place hot be we would never be in the position where we were needing two pairs of socks. It makes no sense that you are spending way more than we are.

Changed my supplier last October & within weeks offered smart meter. Fortunately just about the same time as News we’re reporting incompatibility between suppliers meters, so I turned them down.best laugh is we were with British gas for our leccy and gas and they installed smart meters fine. then wifey swapped providers and the smart meters don't work with other providershow goods that

Problem with infrared heaters to is they don't really prevent damp setting in if you are wanting or needing to keep the place dry and free of dam for any period.
Woman phoned me one day, asked who my supplier was, then said she would do a check to find the cheapest supplier for my needs, she was gone a few seconds then said you would be a lot better off changing to scottish hydro (guess who she worked for). She then said if you change to scottish hydro, I'll send you a free bottle of wine. I relied no thanks. Cheeky sod then said, have a good day and enjoy paying more than what you would do if you changed.
The dual plus DD is usually cheaper

just to point out warming one room isnt doing you any favours as you lose that heat every time you leave the room and you have also created cold rooms within your house
its much better to have central heating on just to warm the house up than it is just using a gas fire for one room

They have endless tariffs......often you can stay with the same supplier and move to a cheaper tariff.....most offer incentives for new customers whilst at the same time losing existing customers.
Actually it should mention on your bill if you could move to a better deal.....but you have to do it

All I can say about the gas figures is that for every Kwh I burn I get charged 3.9pence plus VAT.
The unknown figure/info with the gas is that I have no idea at all how long the fire would have to be on for, for it to burn 1Kwr, or indeed how low/high the setting.
With electric it is easier to calculate if you know the consumption of the appliance. Even if you don't know the consumption , one unit of electricity on the meter = I Kwhr. With gas it has to be calculated using a maths formula.

Currently paying £31 a month with Scottish Power for both Gas & Electric. Best deal I could find at the time! British Gas wouldn't even move, So clearly only interested in customers they can make them a good profit!

Yes it certainly seems wrong.
The only time my feet feel warm enough is when I am the car with the heater blasting. If I go to other people's houses or sit in cafes my feet are invariably cold.
I have cavity insulation & loft insulation. I just feel cold most of the time. Do slim people feel the cold more
I don't know if my total spend for the year exceeds yours-Gas: £575.58
Electric: 229.71
The recent gas bill I received for £251.88 is the highest I've had ever.
