He must have a peggy tub & a wringer too.What are you doing, sitting in the room with candles listening to radio 4 all day on a battery radio?. I wished mine was that low.

not quite, but my thermostat is set at 13C, and things are switched off when not needed, there is just me in the house so I can live with it. ironically I darnt turn the pilot light off on ,my boiler when its not being used as I may not get it lit again, and if that happens I think I'd have to replace my innefficient 40 year old boilerWhat are you doing, sitting in the room with candles listening to radio 4 all day on a battery radio?
funny you should mention about a battery radio, but the one I use is on my mobile phone, something you dont get with modern phones, although when they stop broadcasting in FM (which was supposed to happen in 2015) I think I might need to get a dab radio or two.
ohh and did I mention that Im a bit eccentric at times

I like eccentrics. I invariably find them more interesting. You will have to bight the bullet and leave the pilot light on. . However, going to bed 1 hour earlier every day can save 30 hours use of electricity for lighting every month.I remember a few eccentric ideas from the past that made us take a step or dozen backwards . . .A bit?
Don't mention running in brushed motors . . . or one way roller clutches in drive shafts of a 4WD off-road buggy to minimise friction . . . when the transmission was used to apply braking force to the wheels . . . first corner braking zone did ellicit a small cry of panic . . .

When UK Power Networks is I believe wholly Chinese owned and Gazprom were/are supply I think 11 councils in the UK where are all these profits going? Well there likely helping fund these countries expansionist endeavours. Architects of our own destruction I'm afraid. You only have to get a few politicians and regulators in your pocket to give you the contracts etc. Htf can a foreign owned entity be allowed to prefix their business with "UK"?

From what I can tell the pay as you go tax is largely wiped out in April and the prices are largely the same after the rise

Further increases in oil and gas have led to forecast of £3000/ annum bills after october according to the radio earlier. Never had this problem with town gas, with added bonus of sack of coke for a shilling (5p). Pity all the gasometers have gone, would have made useful storage facility.

We have just signed up to a new 1 year fixed price with eon, gone from £70/month to £100/month for gas and electric in a sub-10 yearold semi, could have been worse, we are quite energy efficient.
I'd like to think prices will be normalised this time next year, but we'll see...

Honda's of that era had the alloy caliper bracket pivoted on a steel pin which would corrode so after applying the brake the fixed pad stayed against the disc, I have pulled into a dark carpark and seen my disc glowing dull red

I was at CF Fetilisers at Ince last week and the entire plant is still off (Shut down since Sept) because of the gas price. It was big on the news when they shut down, as they are also a major producer of CO2 but has gone quiet, understandably, recently.
Their sister plant at Teeside is up and running but recent price increases wont be helping

Oil quote went over £1/L here yesterday. Still freezing and congregating in two rooms. It's great when the oven's been on, we all congregate around the open door for a bit.

Do you all realise that for (at least 4 months) from May to end of August when it is very light and warm enough, we will probably still be paying about £30 per month standing charge for using very little energy.
A bit like hiring a car for 4 months and only using it once per week because the cost of petrol & diesel is so expensive. You simply would not do it, because you have that choice
However, with gas & electriciy they have us over a barrel, the #$%€¥* !!!
How much must the cost of gas & electric increase before the idea of a generator looks like it's feasible, as discussed in that thread ?
