Is that gas good for all thickness steels or is it more suited for thin sheet? All the boat builders in the units near me seem to use it and I can get the stuff cheap.

univeral tends to be fora range of thicker stuff raher than thin sheet but it's still a lot better than co2

It's better than straight co2 but still gives plenty of heat and spatter.

You can use it on all thicknesses and in simple terms, its a compromise gas, it works reasonable on all thicknesses and that is it, for thin materials more dedicated gases may be slightly better and lose out slightly on thicker materials.
