Endmill tools and pillar drill

Just after some advice. I have been given a box of old drills and it also has a selection of smallish endmill tooling.
I've got a fairly heavy duty pillar drill and also a cross axis vise so was wondering if I'd get away with using the endmill tools in the drill chuck or would I be better off getting an adapter and collets to suit the mt2 of the drill like in attached image.
I wouldn't be looking to do anything major in the way of milling but would be handy to be able to mill some basic little bits.

Very light work yes, however the biggest issue with this set up is the holders often break away from the quill because there isn’t any draw bar retaining it.
It doesn’t matter how good the surfaces are or how hard you hit them in, they eventually walk out of the taper.

A fix to this is fitting a retainer to the hole where you eject the chuck, and usually means drilling a hole through the top of the chuck taper but it does help hold it in. If it comes loose it then doesn’t drop out either.

That makes sense and wouldn't be an issue to drill the top of the holder.
I think the endills in the box went upto 6 or 8mm. Id probably be using it more for little wooden projects but maybe some aluminium aswell.

I wouldnt, as above it will want to pop out the taper and shortly after the taper wil get ruined.

You also have weight of the collet chuck working against you. I'd suggest a much smaller ER11 or ER16 set and keep to the smaller cutters.

What are you intending to mill? If you need the precision depth of cut etc my next suggestion wont help too much, however its quite amazing what can be done with a die grinder and decent set of carbide burrs - that will shift material a lot quicker than a pilar drill trying to mill!

Which gives another suggestion of mount a second spindle, either high speed die grinder based, or lower speed VDI live tooling based, to the drill column.
