Empty extension lead reels

Due to reasons i won't go into here involving darkness, a large trailer, a landrover and a lack of using the mirrors i have an issue

Now the cable is fine, the drum with the built in sockets it is less fine unless your criteria for assessing an extension lead drum is how flat it is. In which case its never been better.

I think it is time for a new one. Seeing that cable is fine i think i should look for a new drum

I have had a brief look on eBay but i can't see any bare extension lead reels to add your own cable

Has anyone been successful at finding such a thing?

It's only two discs with a tube in between and a couple of 2 gang sockets.

Tbh, for the price of them - I pay about 50p a metre [1] for a second hand extension drum at the car bootie - it's probably not worth the hassle?

Ie, I got 20m of cable on a drum for about a tenner. 50m was £20. Think the 5m was £8?
I doubt you'll get a new, empty drum for that price.

I use old 15kg mig reels. Our ones from work are metal frame ones and ideal for it.

One of mine is on a hard plastic cable drum which had 100M of VDC's finest RG49 cable, I had intended to fit a metal clad double switched socket to the drum but have managed with a rubberised double extension lead socket for donkey's years, sure it is a bit more difficult to real in and out but perfectly usable.

Look at reels for camping/caravan cables, any of the caravan places will have them. It's just a plain reel to wind the cable round, no stand or anything.

LOL at the flatness wisecrack. I made one out of an old wind up hose reel, Pretty big one mind with a ton of extra heavy duty cable. I just let one trailing socket loose poking out the middle. Had to cut 10 metres off it just to be able to move it mind...

We have a couple made form old mig wire reels, There is a 240v LED light on one so it lies flat as a work light, rough and ready but we use it plenty.

A local satelite dish installer buys his cable on plywood cable reels, I got one of his empty reels and it made a great extension cable.
