Employment Contract

Hi My contract has the following paragraph:-
"your working hours are considered to be the normal working hours of the company, 8:00 am to 4:30 pmmonday to friday, plus such time as is necessary
to adequately fulfill your commitments to the company"
This sounds reasonable but no one can define what is an adequate length of time, I should point out that I am salaried and do not get paid overtime but still work extra hours, is this a proper contract or do I have a case for getting it changed?Thanks in advance

You could ask for some time as holiday if you exceed a certain number of hours in week to be taken in quieter times.

If you are staying until 5:00 everynight then you are exceeding normal working hours. Or does your salary reflect a certain amount of overtime compared to people paid by the hour in the comapany.

A salary hourly rate can look poor if you have to work a lot of Saturday Mornings. If this were the case you could ask for those hours as holiday or overtime

Can you get your job done within the normal hours or do you already know you will burn the oil later.

It depends upon the company but many will reward a team player who steps up when needed with a few hours off when its quieter.

I think you will find the company you work for will stay rigid on the contract anyway.
So you may have little sway.
You could aske for them to add the words
"Plus such time as is necesasary on occassion to adequately fulfil your commitments to the comany". This then suggest it is not always

im salaried as well, my place as added 10hrs extra worth of money into my weeks wage wether or not i do it.
if like at moment things are hectic and i do more than 15hrs extra a week then its given as time in lieu at time convenient to company.
so far this year have had 3wks extra holiday.

Most of the contracts I've had included "working a reasonable amount of overtime", no one will define "reasonable" though
