Emergency tyre repair kit?

Cars without spare wheels - even a space saver is better than nothing.

I have never managed to temp repair with "goop" ever in my life.

I got a few odd wheels about with tyres on them for customers cars - we often have to got out an fit one in an emergency - but there is so many sizes of wheels and stud pattern - you can't stock them all...

I'm sure when I was doing recovery there was a kit available containing a wheel, and a multi adjustable hub that was designed for exactly this problem.

PS. Thinking about it some more it might have been able to be adjusted to fit almost any wheel to any car, but I may have dreamt that.

Only really for loading vehicles - not driving up the road with...

I'm sure the one I saw was an adjustable bolt on hub that took a different wheel, but I could well be wrong, I stopped doing recovery in Mid 2009, and my memory is failing by the day....

These over a £1000 a wheel and you gonna want three 16" 17" and 19"

Taking into account these still won't fit everything and also you trusting your punters to return them complete after going to a tyre bay

Universal spare from Dynomec

Dynomec have introduced a lightweight 17 Inch Universal spare wheel, which fits the majority of five stud cars that don’t have a spare wheel fitted as standard. The company says the wheel will be especially useful to vehicle recovery operators.

These are for 5 stud hubs - washers move in wheel hole bolts - and the wheel comes with packing spigots.

Not seen a price for these anywhere.

My jogger hybrid has no spare...I bought an extra alloy for it with the plan to carry in the boot on long trips.

Drove from London to Edinburgh and forgot it at home ....luckily nothing happened.

All my cars have a pump, torch and string repair kit in the boot or glove box. My thinking is it's a good option to have if it's wet/dark and might just get me out of a bind.

That's the stuff I used. Says good for holes up to 6mm and the puncture I had was about that.

SWMBO paid over £500 extra for a spare wheel kit on her latest Mazda 3
Kit is a new insert for the boot wheel, and space saver spare , Jack and wheel brace are retained from the original spec off tyre gloop and pump. That was early 2022 so probably more now.

A Ford dealer lost a sale on a car we wanted because the rear luggage cover was missing and he wouldn't get one from another car.

those tyre string kits seem pretty decent for a temp repair

and permanent ive used em on my stockcar and my grossly overloaded van ragging it round corners and at speed no problem

That can of goo mentioned above sounds handy...just pump it in and drive. At the very least it would probably indicate where the hole is!

I'm not a fan of changing wheels at the road side....I've done it but I know from experience that a lot of things can conspire against me!

and once used the tyre center wont fix the puncture even if its in a repairable position and virtualy new

For a nail type puncture repair I cant think of anything quicker than a string.

I bought a car that came with one of those exptendin j-shaped braces. Come the time I wanted to use it, it sheared off!

We've used mine to remove some really stuck wheel studs on a Transit where it had to be stood on to move them initially and it's never jibbed at anything else yet.
