Hi all
This is a bit embarassing as I've owned a couple of MIG machines but have only just started using my clarke 135 in earnest to build an exhaust system.
I've always used straight CO2 but when I bought my new machine I bought a bottle of co2/argon mix. i ran out of the co2 bottle that came with it today and have switched to the co2/argon mix and immediately the welds seemed a lot hotter - so much so that the wire was burning back to the tip and I had to bump up the wire speed.
(Incidentally, once I did that, I noticed the machine welds a lot cleaner - the results are much nicer looking, which I guess is to be expected.)
I guess my question is - is this normal? I had just got the settings dialled in to a point where I was happy with them and then bam, change gas and everything goes out of whack
