Hi my name is Andrew and I recently got interested in welding due to the fact that I have a thing I want to build and its got to be welded. I've read most (all) of the tutorials (not sure how much info I have retained) and think I really like MIG welding.
However I have a problem, the project I said I want to start will require me welding together round pipe, and being new to welding, I have no idea as to whether I should use MIG welding or ARC welding. The pipe is (excuse my use of standard measure, I myself (being a student of physics) love the metric system, but alas the US likes standard) 3/4" in diameter and (my guess is) 1/16"-1/32" in thickness (wall thickness).
The idea of using MIG welding excites me mostly because of this forum, a place in which I can ask all the questions I need and get trustworthy answers (or so it seems ^_^). But the cheapest MIG welder I can find is about $130 in a store, or about $80-$100 on eBay (Speedway series 125amp gas-less) and the cheapest ARC welder I can find (in stores or from a friend) is about $60.
So after my lengthy introduction/description of my problem, I would like any input you can provide, ridicule, scrutinize, do what you need to, I am a man who wants to learn, fast, and get started on his project!
Thanks ahead of time for all your input.
