Seems to have varied quite a bit between places. The stuff on that Rapidor was the type of filler you'd use on vehicles. Beaumont's egg was another old time filler. Not sure if that used some type of plaster/chalk base, though apparently that one does wick stuff up, so may well have been.

My S&B was covered in filler as well, but I prefer it with it removed so I won't be trying to replicate it.

Good choice. I prefer unadulterated rough cast too. I always think it's half the character of a machine.

I'm more British than you lot and I'm not even born here. Old machinery looks right in the good ole traditional solid colours.

Like you say, seems a lot of extra work just for cosmetic appeal. I'm guessing most commercial users wouldn't have given two hoots whether it was cosmetically challenged or not either.

Gave the old girl a paint tonight. Come out alright I think. Looks a bit of a bomb site but just all the masking tape etc that I took off while still wet.

I wasn't happy with the finish on the cover due to not prepping it well enough in the first place so gave it a rub down with 600 wet and dry. It's got some orange peel. I used Jotun Penguard HB as I had some left from when comparing how it sprayed with Lechler epoxy. It definitely doesn't spray or lay as well as the Lechler but it should be durable hopefully and I like the colour. Posted a few pics of the other bits now they are dry as well. Still need to make a couple of knobs and a few other bits.

Thanks. I certainly needed it last night, cycling over after work the roads were just full of slush from melting snow and my poor feet were frozen.
