I was in a relative's barn this weekend and noticed under a load of hay a rusty "Elliot Progress" bench mounted pillar drill. Didn't think to look for model number, is has a roughly rectangular steel pulley box with hinged lid.
They only moved in last year and it has clearly been left by the previous owner. It all seems to move freely, table moves etc, although the chuck is rusted solid and there is surface rust everywhere. There was no power in the barn and nearest power 300yrds away and didn't want to carry it on my own so no idea if it works but seems a quite robust unit.
I imagine it will be heading towards the dump if I don't want it; Are they any good? I have a cheap £180 draper at the moment which works fine but is a bit cheap and nasty and wondered if I clean and paint up the Elliot it would be an upgrade?
Thanks
