Where do I begin...? ( dyslexia and meds may make this an amusing read ..it looks good to me .)

In the early hours of yesterday Wednesday 28 April I took some sort of flare up of Arachnoiditis or a disease that has many of the symptoms , I was diagnosed arachnoid back in 1998 . ( read online " The Burton Report " if you are that way inclined. )

I'm still shaking like a skeleton on a tin roof ,my hands don't work very well , feet , hands & joints hurt like mad ... all my skin feels like a very very bad sunburn and is rather red , most of my hairs are stood on end making me look like a silver gorilla. ( cept for my bone dome , which is nearly like an egg with silver sideburns).

This is a frequent state for me but this time it is so intense and the several places of damage in my spine have also kicked off.

last time I got hit like this (about a year ago ) it took four months to get back to being allowed out on my own but I have ended up a lot lower down the fitness ladder and have really struggled to get a little farther back up to still way below where I started from.

I'm not one to let things get me down but did a wee bit of blubbing at the doctors yesterday morn when my bladder & elastic band said go away etc.etc.

Now for the amusing bit since yester day morning at 08:30 I have 21 x 8 foot slotted concrete posts 20 fence panels and about 8 big dumpy bags of sand , mixed ballast ,15 mm washed chippings and almost 3/4 tonne of OPC. sitting on my drive ( Problem " Lady " next door with yapping dogs is not amused .. ..... I am
Alison my lass managed to hump & bump the cement with a trolley to get them in the shed down the back garden in the dry under cover .

I want to ask you guys for thoughts /ideas for using two 4mtr industrial ladder section to make two elevators so i can sit by a bag and with a garden trowel if needed empty a bag at a time send it up and elevator to drop into my trailer then at the other end use the second elevator to decant from the trailer about 2 mtrs up into a hopper to feed a Belle mix cement mixer to make concrete for the paths in the back garden .

I wondering what I can use to make the motor / gear box . the belt and any other things I may need to consider can any of you have a few nightmares and give me some of your thoughts.

It will all have to be light weight and not damage the ladders for they are also used for other lifting devices , work benches and play/a big barbie table and cleaning the gutter so no cutting or drilling.

I've got some idea of using an old reclining chair motorized rams to tip and re set the mixer after emptying , I can cut up the cement bags in a deep tray and make up ten or more kiddies sand buckets for each dose of mix.

just get a big whip and get the mrs to do it. shes alraedy done a bit, make her finish it off lol.
all these rams etc, have you already got them? if not you might be better off paying someone to put the posts it for you

I want to make a pair of meccano elevators to have one in front garden to decant ballast into a jockey wheled 500 kg trailer and as it is on hard smooth sloping concrete let it slowly rool all the way into the back garden where i decant the trailer bit by bit into the mixer

Rather than pay some one .. I've just spent £1200 on materials , the holes for the posts are in rubble clay and roots of a row of 4 mtr high Leylandi ( aka thought of as next doors weeds )

I can spend a few months excavating each hole with a sharp stick and a vacuum cleaner like I ve done before and use 6 to 1 pullies to drag the post to the lifting lowering device.

being able to use an elevaror to load the mixer and rams to empty it a bit at a time into a small motorized sack barrow also with automated emptying will allow me to do it my self and give me some aiming /planning purpose in life ...

I've got the rest of my life to finish it and it will really really annoy the " Lady " next door who this week end shouted 7 screamed out out at the top of her voice some very very pointed names WRT being disabled on benefits because I asked to stop her mutt yapping its's head off ( 4 1/2 minutes of it this time 9 feet from my house wall ) yet again .

I've spent the last five years doing my garden and laying paths etc.... all done with machines and in very very small steps with Alison my wife doing the mixing of over 20 tonne of concrete .

After this five years I now have paths down the side of the bungalow and into the garden area , have three small veg/flower beds total area approx 25 sq mtr in total .

Every spade full has stone , rubble etc in it , my spade is a ladies border spade cut down to 5 inches wide and six inches deep and fixed onto a waisted pitch fork shaft for I cannot use normal garden tools due to disabilities . My fork is a pitch fork with an extra pair of tines fitted in the middle to give a four tine fork on a full shaft.
I use an SDS with chisel 240 voolt hand drill to break up any thing bigger than a dinner plate and do most of the work on my knees of stood with locked rigid upper body ... it take much longer than most people realise to do things and ofetn leaves me shattered & I've burnt out three drills so far.

The longer and more mechanised it gets using very light stuff the happier I'll be on this one , were I a millionaire I'd have the machinery made and still do it myself if at all possible it's the thing that keeps me from chucking the towel in ( had two attempted failures & one natural medical failure in the past .)

I have the rams , controls and torroidal transformer
I have the ladders , mixer , trailer and some sheet , round bar square & round tube metals & power to front and rear gardens .

I have a gassless or gass mid duty cycle fan cooled MIG welder and a decent turbo stick welder , power tools drill press , lots of hand tools inc 110 v 100 mm grinder .
I have the expertese and the stubborness needed to get it done .

I just need ideas , dexagon type angle to say 3 mtrs and short bits ,time & money , much more money

That's the sort of inspiration.. think I have to take a camera down to a local hire centre and see what things look like close up .

Just had a thought for the belts some 75 mm car seat belts from the scrappies stitched together as a full loop webbing with little plastic hoppers pop rivetted on at intervals to take the tiny loads of ballast etc..


Suppose I'll have to make up pulley set belt driven belt speed controller for each elevator .. I wonder if I can get hold of an old battered motability type scooter for the vari speed drives instead and just make up an new chopper circuit speed controller ?? Or even use the buggy on a rolling road device to drive via belts or a hydraulic motor , I have a 24 v hyd pump ex ratcliffe 300 kg load rear vehicle body person lift capable of about 2 tonne before the PRV trips , & could move it and a power supply between the elevators on a trolley , just using a hyd hose to connect to the elevator .... that would be a lighter unit.

could you make some sort of barrow with a 3 of 4 foot support in the middle and piece of channel on the top to take a rung of the ladder so in theory you would have a see saw and depending which rung you put in the channel you would get varying degrees of lift and leverage also mobile on a barrow

That's a good idea for elevating the boom .. I have some lockable 100 mm castors and could easily make a pair of trollies which I can drop in some square tube in square shoes welded to opposite sides and put a fulcrum point across the top that the ladder can clamp to . I suppose I could use some 15 or 19 mm studding to make the actual degree of elevation screw device and put it at the lowest end again welding some angle mount bracket on the trolle frame ..... all removable to below the deck of the troolley so i can use it as a simple trolley after it is all done.

Perhaps puting a thin galv channel up the middle of the ladder to run/ guide the belt through .

I'm so glad to be able to use the thread as a note pad ...i'm typing with both index fingers as holding a pen is mot much use at present

Not bothering that way .... will cut open each back and fill a number of kiddies sand buckets with dust so I can use the elevator to put it into the mixer say 10 buckets per barrel mixed ... that way my 8 1/2 yr old munchkin can earn her crust filing the buckets equally with dust & transport then to the elevator site .

Hi, cant say I can give any help with elevator problem but I came upon an item in ebay of a meccano plan to make an automated elevator. I know its a toy and meccano but maybe the principle of making an automated elevator can be scaled up. Daft suggestion I suppose, but type, Meccano Model Plan for an Automatic Elevator into ebay.

I had a serious think during the night , I'm not buying one ready made as not only will it be far too long it will be far above my capacity to move around .


I 'vebeen thinking of using car steering pump pumps for the drive motor and hyd pump driven via a 110 v motor with a plug in connector system to disconnect the 110 v motor /sump and hyd pump that way two items are lighter than one whole construct unit.


does any one know or actually even used the same model steering pumps to provide the drive and then some distance away use an identical pump as the hydraulic motor ???

I realise I'll meed a P.R.V. and a bleed off tap to get speed variations.

Think I'll have to stop for tonight the meds are still making mee a wee bit dyslexix and I cant see what spell chek is saying . catch you all in a few days time when my system is hopefully clearer.
