Electrolysis Rust Removal

Well, as part of a very slow ongoing project, I needed to derust 2 trailer wheels.

Looking on google, it suggested washing soda. Couldn't find any in my local shop, and tbh couldn't really be bothered with driving round yo find some. The wife would have killed me running round on my daughters birthday anyway.

But I have found online that sugar soap will work as well, and I had some of that in the shed. Nothing to lose, so out with the battery charger, wire, and 4 6" nails.

Seems to be working, rust all seems to be turning black, and cleans off quite easily.

I forgot the before and after pictures, but I'll get some when I do the next wheel, along with some pics of my Heath Robinson set up.

I just used the washing powder we had in. From what I understand it does not matter what 'particulate' is in the water.

I buy washing soda from Tesco. Last lot was 99p for 1kg bag. It's in the washing powder section.

Need a big bit of sacrificial metal, bigger the better, and a little salt int he water does wonders, you want the water to conduct electricity so the further from pure water is needed

Might have to swing by Tescos in the morning and see if I can find a piece of scrap plate for the bottom of the bucket.

Gotta avoid the house tomorrow. Birthday pamper party going on. 5 8 year old girls having hair and nails one ain't my idea of fun and my 5 year old son seems fairly keen to get out as well. Can't think why lol

I've been using washing powder too and the results have been pretty good also
