Hi,some time during the last month or so an question was asked about what size electrodes to use and the amp settings required to weld various thicknesses of steel.The replies contained a link to another site or company which illustrated this but i can't seem to find this in either the search or posts section,can anybody help.Thanks!

hi,
why not give a list of 2/3 main thicknesses that you mainly use, the rods you have and tell us what positions you wish to weld them in and no doubt some of us will be able to point you in the right direction.
rule of thumb (ish) downhand welding fillet size should be approx the same as the thinnest of the two pieces to be welded together (ie 6mm plate to a 10mm beam flange a 6mm fillet is normally sufficient) and you could probably expect to achieve a fillet weld approx twice the size of the rod thickness with one pass.
i would say you can weld almost every thing (2.5mm mat'l thickness+) with a 2.5 rod and some skill/time in any position with multiple passes but a 4mm rods has limited use
