Electrical problem

Ok so my mate calls me last night his breaker tripped whilst some contractors were in his house using a 110V trannie. He has reset the breaker but his outside garage lights will not switch off now. He wants me to check it out later tonight for him. It has 2 switches one in the garage and one in the house these both do nothing and a pir sensor outside. I fail to see how the 2 problems are related but nether the less I will dig deeper toninght. Seems a weird fault to me though first I think ill check the 2 switches out then the pir sensor.

Has any one else any other bright ideas?

If the lights are on it must be bright enough anyway . Coat collected.

If they are controlled by a pir the act of switching off the power (breaker tripped) and putting it back on can mean the lights will stay on, to cure this switch off for say 30secs then switch back on, this should put the lights back to normal sequence (they will however come on for a short period when you switch them back on).

switch them off at the wall switches? if so I have no idea where off will be as there are 2 switches its like ur stairs at home I think

Turn off the MCB for 30 seconds or a minute, the PIR will see it as a power failure and re set, most PIRs see a short off as a latch power (lamp) on.

When I re set the PIR at home the lamp comes on for the pre set interval ( as though it had been triggered by movement ) then turns off.

Edit: Ours usually needs re setting after a short power outage of if a guest has flicked the switch off and then back on trying to turn on the porch light as the switch is the original light switch next to the front door latch. It took years for me to remember the reset sequence as it is not often required.

yes that is what should happen but they don't go back off after the pre set time, and the switches on the wall will not turn them off either,

it was a faulty pir sensor
