Electrical cord question ?

Awhile back I cleaned up a power hacksaw and replaced the damaged cord with an offcut from an extension cord I had. The 6 foot long offcut was from a "Yellow" cord that had 110 volt connectors.
My question is: " Should have I used a different colour cord ? ", because the motor is 240 volts.

Is there any regulation about this ? The gage of the wires are the same.

not a problem at all using yellow flex or any other colour as long as its heavy enough its pretty obvious its 240v if it has a 13 amp plug on it

Don't know about the legality but I have a few extension leads that I have made up myself in heavy yellow flex but with 3 pin 13A 240v plugs and sockets fitted.
I think so long as the plug is correct for the appliance you should be okay.

on site all stuff with yellow flex and yellow plugs on is 110 and 240v blue. one will not fit the other

I have a 13 amp 240 volt plug on it so like you say, its pretty obvious, and I'm the only one going to use the saw.

there was a kenedy hacksaw doing the rounds at car boot sales for a year ranging from 70 quid then went up to 125 not seen it since

I used yellow at work for 240v as (1) I had a free large drum of it, and (2) it stopped the plonkers I employed bodging leads up with black insulation tape, well at least I could spot it easily!

If I recall, I paid around £175.oo for the larger model 90. The seller mistakenly thought he put "collection only" on it, when in fact the add stated "free economy delivery".
He was a bit upset, but I told him I like a road trip and would meet him half way. In addition to the saw, he gave me a carrier full of electrical related hand tools to say thanks for saving him a looooong trip and bridge toll's. Happy day on both our accounts.
