Put the big pulley on the vibrator and the small one on the motor to get back into a more comfortable zone ! 3:1 reduction on a nominal 3K = 1000 rpm

Another comment: Your design is also vibrating the motor - most have a longer belt and locate the motor off the plate to prevent shaking it to bits

This is one schematic I looked at before embarking on mine:

Big pulley on the motor, small on the vibrator, motor mounted on the plate that's isolated by the anti vibration mounts. What am I missing? BTW the Evolution Hulk electric one has an electric motor speed of 2800rpm like mine. Page 30 in this manual:

vibrating electric compacting plates allow you to work indoors without regard to the ventilation that you'd need of a petrol or diesel engine jobby ..
Excavating by hand & re laying a cracked heaved floor one room at a time whilst your living in the property readily comes to mind . Especially if you are contemplating putting in the underfloor heating pipes from either a boiler or a ground source heat pump system .

Putting the back handle in the right place is critical if you want to be able to let the machine run back or forwards just by pressing down on the handle .. too far forward & it will not run backwards .
You'll also need to put the handle on an anti vibration mounting of some sort instead of a rigid welded handle otherwise you'll end up a fair candidate for white finger .

I considered that option but wimped out and chucked 50mm of celotex and and 18mm of t&g chipboard on top of the existing slab.

There were a few twinges I'll admit but the weight fell off me! After having my disc slip twice now I know my limits and the warning signs.

When I broke up and shifted the concrete I stood with a beer and thought "Yes!"...........When I then dug down & shifted the soil I stood with a beer and thought "Yes!".........

I didn't start living in civi street till I was 30 and slapped at 40 % disabled , I've been getting worse ever since and am now assessed as 80% disabled . I had yet another spinal surgery , this time an L2/L3 de compression four weeks ago , to delay the use of a full time wheel chair etc. .......... So it looks like you have a lot of catching up to do .

Erm..........call me a cop out but an electric wacker plate has come up cheap so I'm getting that and putting the home made one on the back burner until I get a decent welder.

I really must resurrect this electric wacker plate having rediscovered it at the back of the bench. Abandoned when I sent back the cheap buzz box shown earlier in the thread.

So...should the Parweld 160A arc on Weldquip be my choice or pay another £40 for the IFL?

It's looking pretty scary tbh.............motor runs at 2800rpm. 6" pulley driving a 2" pulley. 8400rpm might be too fast???

maybe a bit fast, but all is not lost-------- your misses might enjoy using it, twofold problem solved, you get to sit with your feet up and a beer no doubt, and you wont get mithered later, when trying to sleep the hangover off.
