Electric vans post office

Anyone else using an all electric van?

Postman around us covers a big rural area. He was given a little Peugeot all electric van. He quite liked it during the summer. Used to get back to the depot with about 40 miles range left. Not so happy today. Colder weather playing havoc. He said he got back to the depot last night with 20 miles left. It went into eco mode so no heaters - windscreen misting up and he was nobbled.
Back in his diesel today.
Talking to a traffic copper last night - Volvo 4x4 estate hybrid. He showed me the fuel computer. Averaging 17mpg They used to get 36 out of the diesel.

I think hybrids especially are just a sop to the environment. Get a V8 and stick a Duracell in with it you have a hybrid

At the moment leccy cars/vans are a joke….Just a milk float with clothes on..

I see they now attract VED and a ’luxury car’ tax….

They do suit some people. Our web designer has a plug in hybrid and doesn't travel very far. Mind you the diesel version of his Kia was a lot cheaper.......

We are in a rural area and our postie has just got an electric van and really likes it, we haven't had any realy cold weather yet so time will tell.

A couple of lads at my old job had BMW/Merc hybrids, as far as I could see it was just a tax dodge. The batteries were good for about 20miles so didn't really give them any benefit as mobile engineers other than paying less tax.

I played golf during the summer with a guy who brought his wife’s electric mini instead of his own car. Central belt to Campbeltown. Took him a lot longer as he had to plan a route that included charge points, three charges ( top ups?) compared to non stop in his car. He says great wee car in the town but long distance, a pain.

I wonder what the official definition of a hybrid vehicle is because my 4.4l V8 Range Rover has a battery in it and arguably without it it won't function so is critical to it's propulsion. The fact it's only used to start the big diesel engine I feel is moot

I work [ part time] a mile from home ,, and an electric car would suit me the very best ,,, but small petrol cars are so cheap to buy and run it would be madness to even look at a second hand electric , let alone a new one.

Here, DHL have to use Morrisons charging point as their depo cant handle the current draw. He spends 3 in 1hr slots a day sat there, topping up.

If we did a hundred miles per week that would be it.....
to replace mine like for like is over £60,000....aint gonna happen soon.....
PS my T4 TD must be doing over 30mpg......

This must be at least the 4th one and every one goes the same way.
