^^ If mains is leaking from the primary to the secondary and then to earth the RCD should trip.
It seems very strange that you would have a live-to-chassis fault and an earth fault, unless someone has done the unimaginable and swapped earth and live in the plug or inside the unit.
Can you;
a) unplug it!
b) take the top off the plug and post a pic
c) take a pic of the mains cable as it enters the unit and take a pic
I wonder whether there is a wiring fault in your shed, possibly with a missing / floating earth.
Is the feed to the shed protected by an RCD? I would have expected that to trip if you got a belt...
A related thought - do you use any other earthed metal-chassis kit in the shed, or is it all double-insulated (like plastic-chassis drills, lawnmowers, etc)?
I'm suspecting wiring to shed first, and this may be the first unlucky opportunity to put it to the test with a metal-clad device...
that doesnt prove the rcd is working properly just because it trips when u press the button. they need to be checked with an rcd testerTry the self-test on the breakers, you never know.....................
not nececerily ive had them not -trip on the button but they have worked perfectly on test with meter^^ but if they don't trip it proves they're not working.
Evening all. Still here. Got home from work late so not had an opportunity to investigate further. Will post up once I've had a look. As regards to the supply the whole house was rewired about 7 years back and the kitchen got redone again when we rejigged it about 2 years ago. Fully tested inspected and certificated each time. The RCD not tripping Is a worry so that'll be getting tested soon as poss. Trips fine on the button but a proper test needed methinks. Hopefully have some news for you all tomorrow.
Removed bodge. Fan runs but nothing works when trigger pressed - I'm guessing that the relay is activated by the trigger, the relay then allows the gas solenoid to open the wire feed motor to run and current to be applied to the wire to be able to strike an arc. The relay is part of the pcb so I recon ill have to replace the whole board.
