A question for all you experienced welders. Is getting an electric shock moving the earth clamp when MIG welding to be expected?
A couple of times now, when repositioning the earth clamp, I have had what felt like a mains voltage belt of electricity through thick MIG gloves. When it first happened I thought I had perhaps pulled the trigger on the MIG torch but even then it should only be what, 20 volts? The second time I know I didn't pull the trigger because I have it on video. The shock was enough for me to drop the clamp and recoil.
Is there a problem with my welder?
