B&D ok for nothing more than rare short DIY job.

In saying that bought one in its black plastic box from a B&Q sell off with all attachments £27 some years back.
Might have used it once maybe twice (20 mins total) as there are better tools for the job available depending what you want to do or cant do as i found.
My cheap Bosch PBS is more universal and lasted 12 years so far.

The other one where used to work didnt last more than 3hrs total. Used for filing rubber on to plastic, each session about 20 mins.

Different to my experience. My B & D lasted 20+ years of regular abuse and eventually the bearings failed - probably because I'd never bothered cleaning the housing out so it was full of metal filing and tile dust.

I've shaped handles and blades and cleaned things up with mine using it for taking welds down plus a bit of porting now and then and it's still going strong after years of use. A spot of oil on the tip roller bearing now and then and it should last longer but spares are cheap.

FFX have them at £33 delivered. I've bought from them on ebay but never from their website.

Ta for that link. Best price to date. The del with them is free in uk if you spend £90. I bet if I spent £190 with them I'd still get charged for del to Eire.

I bought a makita one years back when a local engineers suppliers was closing down, very handy tool , i was cleaning up some tig welds on dairy tube last week and it great, i buy the little belts in packs of ten from a welding supply shop.

I have been pricing various bits and bobs for my new miller and have to say (sadly) that i buy nearly everything from the uk, even with p+p it still works out cheaper by far.
To support jobs here would be good , but some shops are purely taking the wizz pricewise , especially "w***ies.

Hi Guys,
I do alot of stainless site welding of balustrades etc. I have 2 models i use. One is the makita , which is ok but goes through alot of belts. But the best i have ever used and would recomend to anyone is the Metabo powerfile. What a piece of kit it is. I can even buy scotchbrite belts for it and the belts never come off. They will wear completely flat first. Only downside to it is the cost .. About £480 + VAT . But what an excellent tool. Si

Over the last year I have bought a number of items from their (FFX) web site and always had next day delivery, good prices and service what's not to like.

FFX- £7 to del mainland UK and £19 to Ireland. That's 57% of the cost of the file.
If I go on a spree with them the delivery charge is the same, so spread over lots of stuff it, would be ok.
