When we have cheap and abundant clean electricity electric cars will make a lot of sense. Using fossil fuels to generate the electricity is senseless.

So currently 40 odd % (and increasing) of electric generation per year comes from non fossil fuel sources, but we should carry on using 100% fossil fuel...

I agree there should be a choice (Which there is, no one is currently being forced to buy an EV) but to say it's senseless is a bit OTT. They make a lot of sense for a lot of people, but obviously there are also a lot of people for who they don't - but to wait for "cheap and abundant green electricity" before anything gets introduced (When's that coming?) doesn't make sense either.

I'd love to see your figures and sources for that, considering I have around 1MW of batteries on order for various places, I wonder if your figures look anything like mine?

In fact my employers are awaiting commissioning handover of the first commercial hydrogen burning turbine, admittedly it's only 1600MW but some of it will be used to power pumped storage in Scotland (once the govt cut the red tape) for one of the best energy storage solutions we have

Pumped hydro is fantastic - but is very limited by topography. Not many places have a convenient lake at the top of a mountain! Of course valleys can be dammed etc but people tend to get upset by that!
We have become far too reliant on gas which is why we are paying so much for our electricity.
Hydrogen is a fantastic fuel but using electricity to make it is incredibly inefficient.

Agree, the gentle move over to electric vehicle and other greener things is slow and steady . Should a brand-new unheard-of discovery make scaled up generation cheaper & easier with a lower initial &long-term cost base then we will be really going places.

I was thinking about the cheaper excess or dedicated solar PV, turbine and tidal power units being used for saltwater hydrogen production a few seconds ago. Price will become immaterial in the end it will just be the daily cost of living on earth.

Can the stored energy material be considered as a battery (an energy store?), if the hydrogen is processed into an easily handleable transportable commodity, then re processed back to hydrogen at the point of usage with all current technical problems solved?

It might be extortionately expensive right now, but if the global warming thing is correct, it may well end up being the saviour for the human race with the price just being a cross to bear by every consumer as carbon fuel use diminishes and the world adapts.

Hi Vince, I wasn't suggesting you was. I'm just pointing out that these kind of videos are usually linked to billionaire climate denier with fossil fuel interests. The kind of people that hire private detectives to go through scientist's bins to find something they can smear them with to discredit their work.
