You need to find the right care home!
The one I found was family owned and run - the daughter had taken over from her dad. The manager had been there 40 yrs, her daughters worked there.
All food cooked from scratch on-site and smelt delicious, looked pretty good too. The place never felt, or smelt, anything other than a home.
Could visit whenever you liked - and I never ever felt any concerns over my mum's care there, from the cleaners to the owner. Had the training, the equipment, the willingness to look after residents properly, 24 hrs a day. My mum was unable to help herself over the last 2 years - had to fed, bathed, dressed, and I was often quite moved by the care showed to my mum. Even the small gestures of simply moving her hair away from her face, sitting and talking to her, watching TV with her.
When she died, we were due a refund of close to £2000 - I asked for it to be split among the staff - a small gesture. Even my money orientated sister agreed with that - she's worked in care homes and really liked this one.
The previous home - I'd happily press the button for demolition - a new build, soulless, dirty, broken, damaged equipment, food brought in from elsewhere, staff there to do the hours. I complained to the council, the care body (I forget the name) and also got my mums social worker to do so too.
