el cheapo chop saw vs evolution saw THE RESULTS!!!

so, finally got the new aldis special evolution fury 2 saw back today and had a shot, the first thing that i noticed was that it was way better built than my normal £50 abrasive saw, it even had a blade guard! so i decided to compare!

so the photos:

1- the saws
2- 25x2mm box cuts
3- 20mm round bar cuts
4- 50x3mm box cuts
5- 25mm box angle cut with crap saw not exactly square!
6- angle cut with rage saw very good angles

also have to say on the photos all the ones on the left are from the evolution saw and on the right from the abrasive saw

forgot to write down the cutting times so:
evolution saw - abrasive saw

25mm box - 1.9 seconds - 9.3 seconds
20mm round - 3.7 seconds - 19.6 seconds
50mm box - 4.5 seconds - 23.7 seconds


so the verdict: the dry saw is very very quick at cutting and has clean cuts at that, the best thing about it is that it also cuts cold so the metal is instantly workable,..... but it is quite heavy and is louder than the normal chop saw so the neighbors wont like it! (fek em!) anyway i would definately reccomend one especially at the aldi price (£50 cheaper) any more info just ask, and if you want me to test anything else just ask

Thanks for taking the time, trouble & to do a write-up on them bawjaws. Could save some folks a lot of money and avoid a bad buy to boot. Well done!

A few questions;
Does the Rage saw has a TCT blade in it?
The other saw is a Dewalt? with an abrasive chop saw disc in it?
Do the blade's and disc's interchange over, from one to another, on both machines?

Reason I ask; I have a tct saw for stainless, but the blades don't seem to last (12 cuts! ), so, I have had to fit an abrasive disc in it instead. (At least it gets the jobs done now )

hey, cheers, the fury saw does have a tct blade in it but it is geared down to run at about 1600 rpm where as the yellow saw goes at about 3600 rpm, so i wouldent really want to try to swap the blades also i think that the hole in the middle of the disk is smaller than that on the abrasive one.

Have you seen the price of replacement Evolution blades?

Something to bear in mind I think. Machine Mart (Probably not the cheapest place I know but I have a catalogue handy) sell the 180mm metal cutting ones for £34.06. 230mm for £41.11 and the 14inch ones (355mm) go for £82.23

I hope they last. Otherwise you may be getting the old abrasive chopsaw back out sooner that you think.
Evolution seem to have a business model like those for inkjet printers and fancy razors. Must be making all their profit on consumables.

Blades can be resharpened a few times before they need replacing and (although they are relatively easy to destroy) used properly they will cut a LOT of carbon steel before they need resharpening

First 'real' use my TCT chop saw got was fabricating a workshop for a bike shop (enough angle, box and pipe to make large workbenches and storage racking for 8 mechanics). Didn't even come close to dulling one blade, no 'black snot' when blowing my nose and even if blade life were equal 'cost wise' to abrasives, it'd still be cheaper to run due to the speed and cleanliness of cuts. Remember that (unlike abrasives) cutting capacity isn't reduced as the blade wears

Fair enough. I was only querying as I had heard of a poor report on another website but I think the person in question was using the evolution blade in a mitre saw and running it at too high a speed. He found the blade blunted really quickly. Can't really blame the product if it wasn't being used as designed. He was bodging it really.

I can't believe people have designed a product which is even louder than an abrasive chop saw though! Mine's deafening and its the only the thing the neighbours "comment" on with regard to me messing about in the garage.

Mine's deafening

My angle grinder easily out does my chop saw for noise. I don't even need to wear ear defenders for the chop saw, regardless of what blade/disc it has in it.
