better than there nuke powered planes they built and flew . needless to say theres no living pilots left .they were expendable no lead lined cockpit for them

i dont know i just watched the programme on tv last year , the yanks built one and bullshitted about it so the ruskies had to follow suit. both were scrapped as they were 2 heavy and only experemental http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_aircraft

I remember the wonderful illustrations in a book had as a kid of nuclear powered planes and trains, there was I think even a truck.
What a shame it all came to nowt. The future was such a rosy place in those days.

Not quite in the class of a plane or a train but they did make a go of nuclear for submarines. The thing that caught my eye is that the Astute never needs to be refueled.

I thought this was going to be the same documentary I watched a while back but this one seems to be Russian and more informative. The other programme gave a slightly different take on the American view in that their fleet was wide open for attack from these craft and not much they could do in defence of them and Mikhail Gorbachev coming to power closed the project.
