Eggshell paint issues

My local paint place sold me 5 litres of eggshell oil based paint made by Armstead, For a trade paint it covers ok but it has been on 24 hours and it looks more like a gloss and as it is a mid grey it reflects quite a bit, Do you think it will lose the shine in the next 7 days as i have just been told? I know i should have probably used one of the modern water based paints but all the ones i have put on for other people have been watery or washed off easy.

if it's touch dry now it aint gonna change finish wise.......generally water based paint is hopeless......
I'd be telling the supplier about ur probs ....could be a bad mix......

cant help you directly but dulux diamond eggshell is a very good modern paint it covers well and is diamond hard totally scrubable as that bloke on the tv would say


What sometime work is a very fine scotchbright type pad just to not the shine off it

its not gloss and its not matt its in between like vinyl silk

...seem to remember using wire wool on varnished woodwork projects many years ago - probably before they invented scotchbrite!

I did think about a scotchbrite or similar and then waxing but there is quite a lot of surface area even in the small room i am doing.

In the main areas yes but also some areas i have used a aluminium oxide acrylic primer under coat and it looks the same on both areas.

Might be one of those daft times where you have to use the correct undercoat,it does happen

Yes that is the stuff.

Ok to update, the paint was still gloss so i went back to the supplier and took a sample i painted on a few different backgrounds and they gave me a fresh mix which i took home and mixed with a cordless and paddle, it is totally different dried to a nice semi sheen.

Another update i give up this paint is just crap, Painted the window sill 2 weeks ago and the paint is still soft and easy to scratch which i managed to take a chunk out of today and the smell is still strong.

Only apply if room temperature is 10 degrees C or above. It should state this in the blurb or on the tin.

Should add that using a heater to warm a room doesn’t work, the surface needs to be 10C plus. Found this out to my cost a couple of years ago when finishing a new extension just after the ‘beast from the east’.
