Effect of stringer and weaving technique on GMAW welding in different positions

In which cases stringer techniques is preferred and in which cases weaving techniques are preferred???

Which is better stringer or weaving for flat and overhead fillet welding???

Please suggest or provide me the literature about "effect of stringer and weaving techniques on weld quality in different position" or "In which position which technique is better???"

When i did the 6g pipe course and test, it was root run, then stringers to fill the joint and finished with weaving to cap the joint.

Stringers then... All depends what the procedure specs really... personally I'm a stringer fan for fillets.

8/10 a stringer is the way to go. Setting the amps/volts on the high end of the joint and sending it down at a decent travel rate. Should a larger weld be desired it is a better option to multi pass rather than weave to achieve it in less passes. The trouble with weaving is heat input. It recks the mechanicals in the joint as the grain structure is big and course.
Large grains equates to low toughness which is there for a poor joint. Multiple passes of stringers is the way to go. By doing this you refine the grain structure more with more passes making for a sound weld. Keeping the heat input down whilst not affecting penetration is key.
Vertical up welding dip transfer solid wire gmaw is a case where you will probably chose to weave slightly. This is simply from a fighting with gravity point of view as it helps to keep things from running back over. It should not be done to the point where it's too wide for the reasons above. I avoid weaving where ever possible it brings nothing to the table regarding the welds strength and it's only useful to aid with puddle control V up.

Will weaving help in fighting gravity force pulling weld-pull downwards in horizontal 2F fillet and overhead position welding??

It's really a case of trying it mate and see how it goes. If you can perform those joints without weaving then do so. If you find a little torch manipulation is needed to keep things under control then that's what you need to do. I would say the 2F you shouldn't need to. Overhead you probably might want a bit. Try them out and get your own results.

@davidjohnperry if you can get to grips with the jumbled up chapters, yes, it's good. It focuses on rod manipulation, and on doing downhill and uphill 6010 roots. Which is exactly what I wanted it for.
