Echo chainsaws

I'm on the lookout for a chainsaw and I've come accross a few of these ,the Echo cs 550 seems popular ,any users on here .

I got two Echo saws.

One petrol and one a 56v battery thing.

Been pleased with them both - use them for pruning in garden and workshop yard. Plus a bit of firewood.

I did always buy - Stihl - but we got a Echo dealer near us - that is the only reason I changed make.

I hate chainsaws - I hate using them - I see them as a necessary evil.


Best thing I ever bought was a Silky Saw - long pole thing - I into these - they just so good. Cut on the pull stroke - no climbing or steps.

Echo are good saws, I have a 90cc Echo saw (an ex-hire fleet saw) of theirs that was first used in the clear up of the 1989 UK Hurricane.

It still starts and cuts well.

The CS-550 seems to be a Pro grade saw, so provided (s/hand) it's not been hammered it should be a good starter saw, I'd always recommend buying new if possible.

cannot comment on the chainsaw, however I have an echo leaf blower, shredder, probably had for about 10 yers now. It has been a very good reliable piece of kit. Always starts and runs fine.

I see very few Echos around, other than the 2511, most pros buy Stihl. I dislike Stihl, too loud and massively overpriced.

What is it for? Occasional firewood duty? The cheap 53cc saw from lidl is not all that bad. I keep one in the car as a backup saw.

I quite like the Farmertec clone saws. I made this video last week - clone 2511 vs Echo 2511.

The clone wins, bigger exhaust and more power. The Echo is very restricted out of the box, but as yet I'm hesitant to mess with a £500 saw.

That is a G372xp and has done a reasonable amount of work. It did have a few small issues from new but running well now. It did not get much rest that day with noodeling the big slices into liftable quarters.

While not very common i've always heard Echo saws as being well-regarded for their build and reliability. Not sure what kind of backup you get for parts/repairs compared to Stihl/Husqvarna but i've not heard anything bad about them.

You're so unadventurous, they're great fun.

Most pros buy Stihl. I dislike Stihl, too loud and massively overpriced.

Their air filtration is rubbish too. I'm not fond of Stihl saws, mine are all Husqvarnas.

I have an echo cs-310es a few years now and it's been a great little saw. It's the easiest started saw I've ever used.

Our local garage do two stroke garden stuff and repairs, the only marque they sell is Echo, and they don't want to touch anything else.

Couple of mates have Echo chainsaws, and swear by them.

I'll buy one this year, my Stihl did nearly 20 years occasional use, but in the last couple of years everything died on it, I've basically replaced nearly all of it, and then the plastic body started dying and I'm fed up of spending time and money on it.

Bought a €40 Lidl electric chainsaw, 3 year guarantee, bargain. (Corded).

One of my local Stihl dealers sells Echo chainsaws/blowers as an alternative brand, he seems to recommend them over the cheaper Stihl homeowner models....

Personally l like Husky, although l would like an Echo 2511, lighter than my 335/338xp's........Mmmm a clone saw........... maybe?

Comes set up for 3/8" full chisel, tho I swapped the bar and chain for a 10" carving nose type, which is much better suited for climbing use.
Generally I use it for stuff under 10" and swap to the 020T or 372 for bigger stuff.

only now use Echo for chains saw, mine quity a small model and hedge cutter......
but will say I could not refuse a big Lidil petrol c/saw on offer at 80 euros (new in store purchase) it's now 3-4 years old and of good qual...plus a good warrenty....
Next time they are on offer I'll buy one as a spare, just in case......besides at that kinda money they aint worth fixing....
Certainly as good as a New Stihl...
Old ones were v good but so heavy and now no parts....

I’ve never handled an echo saw but I’ve not heard very much bad about them. I’d certainly give one a go if I was in the market for a saw.

Not really. They are ok but underpowered and heavy for the engine size, I have one as a backup saw, but they are certainally homeowner grade. I'm not a fan of the easy style pull start.
They wear away the chain cover wear plate and once thats gone, the chain adjuster flops out.
They are generic China 5800 saws, so spares are available.

The same saw is on ebay quite a bit less
