Ebay Vs Buying in store

So I've got an opportunity to buy what seems as a brand new mig welder from ebay for two thirds the price as it is in store. Now I'm checking the unit out tomorrow to make sure it actually is "brand new" as the seller claims. Do machine mart have a warranty on their welders? If so, I'm tempted to buy it from them and save any future hassle. Any thoughts?

If you buy from a store you always have your statutory rights, usually a 12 month warranty and probably longer on different types of goods and you can go back to wherever you purchased the goods knowing they will still be there.

If it's a Clarke MIG then Machine Mart are doing another VAT free few days, I got the email yesterday, you are supposed to use the barcode on the mail but up to 3 guests can tag along and get the same discount..... perhaps a forum member near you has the same.

I suppose it depends if the ebay seller is a trader (so therefor has to give warranty) and well established (ie will still be trading if you have problems)

I'd rather buy secondhand cheap or new from machinemart, i've had a few problems with stuff over the years and they've always honoured the guarantee (even when I took my angle grinder in and it was still smoking )

Ahh good to know guys! I've been waiting donkeys for the machine mart vat free day!! If there's one coming up in any store around Birmingham please some one let me know. I'm on their mailing list but i somehow missed the last one

As far as I am aware it's all stores, phone sales and on line sales...according to the mail I got from them, they are stating it's their FINAL vat free day ever

They seem to send a load to half of the countries members at one VAT free day then the rest gets it on another VAT free day.

5th july to Monday 18th July, just checked my email and it says ANY of our branches in the UK, or oder by phone or online by putting the barcode number in.
I won't be using my barcode and if it was workable you are welcome to it.
May be worth phoning them to complain you have not received the offer.

A cheeky thing to do is email Machine Mart and ask them if they have a vat free day coming up in your area, you will get a reply back saying no sorry etc bla bla bla......

I done this ages ago and then a couple of weeks later I got a vat free code from them. I seem to get them quite often ( every couple of months ) Sure they know I will only buy from them when there on....

I think you have a point, I only used them when VAT free, so I suppose they have the records and know that..hence I get the mails every time...BUT ...on this one it states in big red letters FINAL ever VAT free day..sounds fairly serious about it.

Yeah till they do it again and sell all their products this time round, ner i dont trust big companies.
