I sell LOTS of stuff on ebay and have had practically every scenario , usually the other way round when you win an item for 99p and the seller refuses collection on the grounds that they make money on there postage! To be honest Tiggy if the guy has put collection only and he has answered no to a request to pick up before the listing ends then your only course of action is to either do as Welshpug says or arrange for a courier to collect the item from him afteryou have paid by fully cleare cheque or Paypal. cheers

It's worth remembering not to accept PayPal for customer collecting as there will be no proof of purchase and the seller might turn round and claim against you

For the record, I havn't bid on the item.
Of course it is the sellers choice, nowt I can do about that. I just couldnt understand any reason for being adamant that it is not to be posted. Obviously some of you have far more Ebay experience than myself and have given me some valid possible reasons for the sellers choice.
I have given him the option to contact me if he changes his mind, I can't do any more than that.
At least its no longer a total mystery to me now, so thanks

The first thing I bought, as a try out, was a rip off !! Only one other where it was blatantly not as described, the rest, about 8 maybe have all been buyers just trying it on or being on another planet with their expectations and refusing to acknowledge my description. Worst country is Spain, I won't deal with anyone from their now, best is the USA, always as described or better, well packed and courteous.

I recently bought a cheap mig welder from ebay, for £50, but most are collection only.
My approach was to ask the seller kindly if I could organize parcelforce to collect the parcel from seller on a agreed date/time and have it delivered to myself.
I even offered the seller and additional £5.00 towards packaging material, and he was ever so happy to do that for me.

I should have made more of that kind of approach myself, although I doubt in this case he would have agreed to it. I will leave it as it is now, I don't want to make a pain in the ass of myself.
I still find it strange, as he offers free postage on some of his other items for sale. I think its just down to the ease of boxing and packing in this case, lazy sod

On items too big or heavy for Parcelforce I put collect only as all the couriers seem to have stopped the timed collection option and want me to wait in from 0700 to 1700! they won't even let me drop a parcel at their local depot these days.
I had a muppet recently. I bid on the item and it did say collection only in the details but no mention one way or another in the description so when I won I asked if it would be possible for him to post. I got a similarly snotty reply to you saying that the listing stated collection only. No probs thinks I because I know a guy who lives in the same town who will go and grab it for me and then forward it for some beer money - that's why I placed a bid knowing that postage might not be on the cards. Unfortunately I'd emailed the question about postage at lunchtime so it was teatime when I replied to his snottogram to say "no probs - let me have a phone number and address and I'll get someone to arrange a time with you to come and get it". I got a reply to that saying "hard luck I've sold them to someone else".
He then tried to cancel the transaction so that he didn't have to pay the fees on both sales. Guess what I said to that. I also left him negative feedback. His own damn silly fault for not showing a little patience.

I had one where the item was 20miles away, I bought it and paid within 5 mins of a BIN,
Then nothing until I traced them to an address and I sent a nice email basically saying im comming round to see you and have a chat.
I got a full refund within minutes where paypal failed even with me winning the claim.
Im not a nasty person but they were taking the ****.

Because unless you use DHL/TNT/FedEx etc. you cannot guarantee delivery, laying yourself open to fraud. Royal Mail tracking stops at the border so it is useless. The international couriers offer tracking but they are eyebleedingly expensive.

ebay is very impersonal though,youre always suspect about a buyer/seller.
i have bought some rare music gear from the states via craigslist,now that really is a gamble!

I use my works courier UPS I get charged £6.99 Uk next working day,
I use the works bubble wrap, boxes and tape I charge £8.99 on the bay and I make sure it gos next working or same day it's won.
I can track it, I'd prefer this way.
When I sell overseas it's always a gamble, I once sold a load of socket A CPUs to a dude in the Ukraine as spares or repairs, cheeky git emailed wanting a partial refund coz one CPU wouldn't post on his board. He got told to foxtrot Oscar nicely.
