Ebay question

I bought an item and not entirley happy with it.

On looking at the listing where it says....10 available/34 sold.

I have looked through quite a few pages of the sellers feedback ie neg,nuetral,pos and cannot see anyone who has bought this item or giving feedback about it.

whats going on there? how is it implying that there has been 34 sold?

It may be a continual listing and the other sales could have been months ago, also buyers are getting poor at leaving any feedback at all... I think in my last 20 sales only 6 left feedback.

Contact the seller a give them a chance to rectify the situation, most are more than willing to sort a problem, personally I don't open a dispute unless I have to...it leaves a strike on their account and sometimes each others views on an article differ, as long as they sort it for you then in my opinion they are a good seller.

If you feel they are unhelpful then open a dispute that matches your concern.

Its not that I am unhappy with the purchase as such its how they can say that 34 have been sold when I cannot find one seller in the feedback leaving feedback for said item.

I looked through 40 pages of 179 their feedback noting the months and days and no feedback was left about this item after those dates.

Ok I'll contact ebay and query this.

I think the number sold thing is controlled by eBay not seller

I know this, If you start a dispute against the seller or buyer you are automatically not able to leave any form of feedback, I wanted to warn others about a buyer who didnt contact me, there was one other person who had left feedback, but after contacting him he told me that he didnt raise a dispute with the guy, so it may be that there are literally hundreds of unhappy buyers and sellers who cant voice their feelings about the sellers/buyers who have done wrong. Seems like a great plan for that certain website to make itself look better than it is, although you cant really blame the website for the idiots that mess people around I guess.
But that is probably why you cant see any feedback for that item, it is probably rubbish and as soon as everyone recieves it everyone is trying to raise a dispute and cant leave the feedback that genuine buyers and sellers really should know about to help them avoid the rubbish items and nasty sellers and buyers.
I am not bitter about the idiots that messed me around, 3 in a row when selling a car, not fished off at all

it can be listed as a private sale,with no feedback viewable to the public
happens a lot with 'best offer' items so the seller doesnt let the potential buyer know what he has previously let the item go for

I'm a long standing buyer and seller on eBay and I always do the homework before purchasing.

With what you say always remember that not everybody bothers to leave feedback - always good news to somebody "trading on the edge" - but the most important thing is use the eBay system to it's fullest . . . it does mean jumping some hoops but, if you get you're money back, does this matter? Ignore too any "no returns" conditions by a seller - especially if they had over 40 units to sell - as they couldn't get out of Distance Selling Reg's. Last, always use PayPal - even if as a seller you hate their fees - as it makes getting your money back so very much easier.

That is, I'm afraid, one very good example of "sales manipulation" that eBay hasn't - yet - come down on hard. Likely every seller on eBay has a PayPal account and it's impossible to list ANY item on eBay without offering PayPal as a choice for payment . . . so every buyer is entitled to pay for any purchase using PayPal.

I suspect though that those who don't see PayPal fees as a form of "sales promotion" will simply ignore the rules, screw you around and may even re-list the item to see if another is willing to cough up the dosh . . . leaving you with just hassle with eBay.

Me? If the price is more than I can afford to set alight notes for then I ignore ALL "cash sale only" and similar terms . . . you're buying something s/h unseen, surely some form of purchasing warranty is to your benefit?

I've also been on ebay for many years as buyer and seller and have seen and experienced most of the up's and downs. I have to admit that I would be less than happy to be paid for an item selling for thousands by paypal so I can understand, particularly car sellers, wanting cash payment. Personally I always understate the items I sell so the buyer is either satisfied or pleasantly surprised. However I have suffered the disadvantage of buying a motorcycle a year or so back that was some distance from the sellers description and being denied buyer protection by ebay because I paid cash. I only discovered just how bad it was on the journey home !
If feepay weren't so greedy with their fee's it could be a different story.

If I'm selling a larger item on eBay I generally ask for deposit by PayPal with balance paid cash on collection.

It gives the buyer some guarantee and stops those buyers who bid and never collect.
