was looking at a motor and it said £ 3,50 postage I messaged them and the reply was its wrong and no explanation they had no feedback so I passed on it . just been looking at a lot of large articles for sale and most say 3 pound 50 postage am I missing something .are they conning people

When you list an item Ebay automatically fill in a suggested postage price.
You have to manually change it if you want to.

well I once bought a drill and it said 3.50 postage and it never arrived so messaged him and he said collection onlyi then said how much delivered as it was 200 miles away , he said 15 quid so I payed the extra by paypal direct . still never got it so lodged a complaint and got the money back but couldn't get the postage back because it wasn't through ebayso now I wont buy if I see it or pm them and they have a fair bit of good feedback

I got caught out on that. Didn't realise that the ebay suggest postage was £1.

Item cost me nearly £9 to post

I explained to seller and he offered to give more money, but it was my fault and his lucky day

eBay have totally messed up the way you can list one offs. I listed something and wanted to give free (or rather included) Hermes delivery but it kept reverting to £3.50 postage

In the end I had to invoke 'help from a frequent seller' who advised clicking a link (top right) intended for 'professional sellers' that gave far more options, but it was still a struggle just to list one item - it used to be very simple

As you say "used to be there" seem to be a number of shall we call them quirks
Every time they seem to want more money boxes that go back to default.
I go over each line now to find any mistakes after listing.
As someone said the post bit has changed a lot & not for the better.

Basically yes.
I think lot of people who want collection only just presume they would have to add postage for themselves if they wanted to offer it.
It is a bit stupid that ebay think it's ok to add it in for them. Especially when they obviously have no idea on the weight of the item or what service you can use to post it.

The cynical side of me thinks it might be due to ebay trying to get the sellers to use the ebay postage as well

With eBay you need to go through things to extreme lengths to make sure your listing works for you

You get a lot more options on a pc than on the ebay phone app.
My top tip... do a listing for something on the pc.
After that, you can use the ebay phone app, look at the item you are already selling and then scroll down and click the "sell similar" option. This then loads the same settings for you.
Obviously some things may still need changing but it saves you a bit of work.

You can add your own postage - for free I guess make it zero. I don't do free so if I've listed as collection and someone asks, I find out, then add it to the listing. I think I've been asked after they won an item, and you can add postage to the invoice you send.

Shipping is one area that is diabolical in ebay. Expected dates are so far in the future some are into january already and thats not just china..



And the latest one I looked at is crazy.
Why not just make it simple?

Have recently listed a couple of things on eBay. I haven't sold anything on there for a long time, does seem that they want you to book postage via ebay, -when listing from a PC 'other courier' i.e. Hermes etc. is tucked away at the bottom of the royal mail large parcel listing.

Most annoying thing is when I saved a draft to list later, it reverted my previously entered starting price to 99 pence. I didn't notice this at first, and had to end the item early and re-list as unsurprisingly someone had put in a bid on what looked like the bargain of the century.

All my crap goes "free postage", mainly cos I am to lazy to work out shipping costs, I take a
wild stab at the price and whack it on what I am asking.
This is the post section as I see it, as I always do free post this is always what it looks like and I don't have to alter

They don't want private sellers any more they are trying to become another Amazon!

Some of the postage I've seen I ridiculous....a response I got from a seller about 3 weeks ago is that eBay set the price....I live in Ireland and was looking at a starter motor for my sv650s, 2 different sellers in the UK, same motor etc...one sleeves postage was £12.45, the others was £23.72....make sense of that

I sell stuff to farriers. They all want it as soon as possible so I have a carrier that collects from me and delivers next day.
For something like a starter motor i might pay them £10 for uk mainland but they are expensive for scotland/ireland so that might cost me £22.
Ebay take a 10% cut of the postage as well so I would have either charge you £24.20 and provide the box and selotape for free or use a different service.
Unfortunately ebay treat Highlands/Islands/NI all as mainland uk and that's an issue for sellers that use certain carriers. Ideally I would like to be able to offer you (in ireland) a cheaper service while still offering next day delivery to the uk but ebay is not set up for that. They want all the items delivered as quickly as possible.

I can't see how it is any sort of scam as all the prices are clearly visible before you buy.
