Ebay Non-Paying-Bidders

This is getting beyond a joke, getting people to actually pay for the items they bid on and won? Now that it's effectively impossible for sellers to leave negative feedback, what are you supposed to do? Ebay still let people join with Hotmail accounts etc.

Am I the only sufferer around here? I sell computer parts and car parts mostly.

Oh and eBay's "buyer requirements" only allows you to block people who already in the negative. You can't block a Zero feedback new user who joined with a Hotmail account. Even if it's the 3rd time you relisted the item due to non-payers, each time you pay the relisting, all you ever get to claim back is the Final Value Fee - that works out at about half of what you have lost due to the non-payers, before wasted time is even considered

I thought you had to have a paypal account now to be a user, don`t know how it helps though. Ebay is a bit of a joke full stop, especially when you get people using sniping software as well. Non payers worked for me the other day though, someone didnt cough up for something i was bidding on (a load of marine ply) the seller got in touch with me and now it`s mine.

Computer parts are too general an audience. That and consumer electronic probably are the worst.

I have had no problems with buyers paying. Have been selling some welding stuff but mostly spare riding mower parts and some old tools.

Craig's list has been good. Cash-only is easy

Ebay is going downhill the last 6 months. I too have had a few non payers since the 'no negative feedback to buyers' rule came in. I got my first Neg the other day totally out of the blue, one month after i sent her the item, claims it was miss represented, even though its my most popular line and i have hundreds of positive feedback's over it. I had to give her in reply either 'no feedback' or a 'positive'. So i gave her a positive then in the comments space I went on to shout out in capitals bellow it that she was a mad bitch and buyers should be aware of her. Short of driving 300 miles in a tractor and spraying her home with silage, that was all i could do. What with the price of fuel and everything.

The latest mad ebay scheme is forcing dvd sellers to give free postage, in the new year!

we had a woman who bought our baby seats the other day she had identical one on for more after she won said she didnt realise she would have to buy them (450+ feedback)
so we called the ebay cust service helpline number on the home page because we are special and they pulled her account there and then saying they dont need her type ruining it for others
lol 2 hours later we had the 120 quid in paypal and an apology

Ive had someone win a camera i was selling, got the details, bloody Spaniard, i sent an invoice with updated postage, asking for payment GBP, no sign of anything so far.

How about this scam. I had someone nick £700 from me.

I also had someone say they never received a Nintendo DS lite I posted out. They paid £120 and a a few weeks later paypal said he never received the item and promptly took the cash from my paypal account. Have a look at the proof I sent to paypal.

The £700 scam was for vouchers. I was posted a bit of card by special delivery. I complained to paypal and after weeks of going to the police to report it, then faxes of the reports to paypal they said I wasnt covered. even though the guy who scammed us scammed about 10 other people and they got their money back. You lot work that one out...

No sign of the money. We have given up hope of getting the £705 back. I worked so hard for that money it was supposed to be used to buy a new laptop which I use for work and buy some other things to sell on and try to make money with.
==== WARNING TO ALL ==== Never use Ebay and paypal to pay for any purchases over the value of £100. If you must pay more then £100 for something then ONLY use a credit card because then you should get it back when you are scammed by someone (and yes you WILL get scammed on Ebay).

can I just add that if you pay by credit card to Paypal then you can't claim it back via your credit card company...

basically the card comapny say that their transaction was with Paypal and there was nothing wrong with that. The dodgy transaction was between Paypal and the buyer/seller and it up to Paypal to get the money back, or not!

If we all wrote to out MPs to complain then something would be done...it only takes about 50 letters to get them moving.

My mrs recieved her first neg under the new rules yesterday. She sold a item and waited two weeks for the buyer to even make contact. They kept saying after that they had posted a cheque, but it took another 14 days to arrive, and arrived with the day before's postmark on it...
She found they had left her a negative feedback "lacks communication", she had no option but to leave them a positive with "got the money, but took 4 weeks!!! for cheque to actually arrive - oldest lie in the book"

that sending a bit of card is an old trick. all you can do to combat it is take if from the postman and open it in front of him before he can say anthing, if its ok then sign if not then do not sign, give it him back.

Personally i just wont buy anything expensive from anyone unless its within 40 miles and i can go and pick it up. If you just have a bit of patience it will be available not too far from you, sooner rather than later.

I have given people the obligatory pos+ feedback and slagged them off in BLOCK CAPITALS warning other sellers. Childish but what more can you do.

Nearly everything you bid on these days seems to be offered back to you a couple of days later if I was the suspicious type I would be inclined to think it's too much of a coincidence

My mrs auctioned off a bumbo (weird baby seat in foam they can sit in upright) , first bidder didnt answer at all for a week, so she second chances it to the second bidder after the obligitory waiting period, who refuses it, and then she had to offer it bidder #3!

I thought the new rules might have cleaned up ebays act a bit as the sellers refusing to leave feedback first made being honest about when you had a bad experience difficult and it certainly resulted in some tit for tat bad feedback for me over time, but I think its gone too far and will make it so bad for sellers they dont bother any more. We find bits and bobs clearing out , and I say for example "lets auction that espace wing mirror, Its complete with all the remote controls etc and in perfect nick" , she thinks about it for a bit and says "itll only fetch a tenner its really not worth the grief and it will cost us more than that in time" so we just throw it in the landfill. Kids toys we just take the charity shops etc instead of doing battle with ebay buyers... Now poor me, i can hear people playing the worlds smallest violin already, but I dont really care about it to be honest, what it will annoy me is if someone finds something rare but of little monetary value, like a half nut for a harrison lathe, or a cam cover for a leyland tractor. They just look at it, and say "its not worth the grief". And that was what ebay was good for, finding weird things you needed to complete some project. Not all the chinese and counterfeit goods which will continue to sell on there.. Au revoir worlds largest flea market...

we were looking for a rare football medal to make up a full set the only other place is a collector who will know the value of them and we get fleeced lol

That's pretty much how I feel these days, however rather than chuck it in landfill I normally put it on Freecycle - people will take any old crap off you if it's free Saves me the effort of taking it to the dump and clears my conscience slightly about how non-green I am most of the time

Joking aside I've found Freecycle to be a great resource and suggests everyone gives it a go

I totally agree something needs to be done or sellers will stop selling but I just can't understand somebody bidding on something and not paying for it
sellers should also be able to put a reserve price on their goods for free as you can't expect them to give their goods away this would stop them from having to bid on their own products
one of the things I was buying was offer back to me at the final bid price and a couple of weeks later it was back on eBay with the same price as a buy it now offer if something is offer back to me I will not pay the final bid price but I would pay my final bid price there are dodgy sellers as well as dodgy buyers and yes eBay needs to do something about both maybe they should do something like real auctioned and take a reserve of the buyers

I've had 2 more non payers since my last post. One a 40+ feedback user, one a 400+ feedback user. It's not like it's just the 0 feedback newbies that are the problem.
