Spotted this Boxford on the 'Bay - no connection with the seller, but could be a good buy for someone....

Not really. It's a TUD. which means, no screwcutting, no power feed, no cross side feed. No nothing. Very basic manual operations only.

Moot point given it's been removed, but just how basic are the operations you refer to? Hammer-like basic?

An awful lot can be done with a plain turning lathe...

Mind you that is a late variant TUD, the colours date it from the late 70's-on.

I bet you'd get boreder and irritateder if the shaft was mounted in a vice and you had to do the 'turning' with a file

Granted, but 400 quid is a bit spendy when 50% more would get you a fair bit more capability.

Indeed. Wasn't trying to suggest it's useless. Is just not the bargain it might otherwise seem to the uninitiated.

it would get u away nicely if u were only making parts not on a regular basis or turning long shafts that need to be acurate

There doesn't seem to be any carriage feed on that one, you just bolt it in place and use the compound slide. The chuck looks kinds strange too, the jaws are too tall.

EDIT; I've just spotted a handle at the tail end of the bed, I guess there's a leadscrew inside/under the bed.
