I've ordered a pack of crimps from Toolstation, will see how they compare to the Ebay ones I've been practicing with.

I have a feeling the Toolstation ones may be a little on the light side if the intended use is for use as welding cable. They may be ok in a fixed location with a sold cable but the strain and movements on a welding cable are hard on a crimp terminal.

I usually get mine from the local motor factors as they tend to have heavy duty ones.

Oh and as for sealing after, I like to use the heatshrink with the glue in it as it seals them up nicely which is quite important when working on fishing boats.

Used a 10-8 sized crimp from Toolstation to put a lug on the cut down 10mm retyrn lead on my Clarke 151 which I've then secured to a Dinse panel socket inside the machines housing. Used regular heatshrink as that's what I had in stock. The lug connection appears to be strong. I did a test on the same cable beforehand and all seems well.

I'll try a motorist sgop or CEF next time, but the 10-8 size from Toolstation seems to have worked in the crimpers size 10 die.

They are good, but can take your order and if parts are not in, wait until they are.

CEF do a kit of crimps.

Heatshrink with glue is good, but using to hand is also good.

I haven't used the Toolstations ones, but did have to use the Screwfix version. I will not say I had issues, but I was pleased the hand crimpers were in the van.

if the cable core is smaller than the ferrule just strip some 1,0mm cable back and wind it round the core and shove it in it will fit snug and when crimping hold the strands together making a perfect joint
