Yeah - couple of things would put me into the "anti buyer" camp.So it seems that some people now feel Ebay are anti seller, and others anti buyer .... has anything really changed apart from the payment method?
I did...and lost 150 quid. It's absolutely crap to sell stuff from now, that's for sure. I'm not sure I'll even try it again, fb marketplace works so much better even with a more limited audience.
Not being sure when I'll receive my money from ebay after selling something is like selling something to someone in person who promises to pop back in a weeks time with the cash... You just wouldn't do it.
Any Irish or european lads on here buy from the UK ebay recently ? I was going by the rule of thumb, that whatever something cost in UK pounds, when bought by someone outside the Uk, cost roughly twice the Uk price in euros. So i see something that costs £50 on ebay, i click buy it now, that item will cost me roughly twice that - E100.
I bought a part for a triumph gearbox during the week. I stuck in an offer for £35 and the seller accepted. He quoted £17 P&P, AND (oddly) £8.05 VAT. I have just gotten an email off customs demanding E12.95 duty, so my gearbox cover will cost me the grand total of 87.57 euros !
Why do i have to pay VAT in the UK if that part is sold outside the UK ? Is this correct ?
I simply cannot pay that sort of money for tools and parts, It will be sadly goodbye to purchasing items from the UK if thats the sort of bunce i have to fork over.
We now have the same from outside the UK. Some one some where is taking it in.Any Irish or european lads on here buy from the UK ebay recently ? now where's that thread about starting a Forum Pony Express to shuttle items around the country?
@minimutly - a retirement hobby/business opportunity? Have parcels delivered to you and run a monthly day trip to Rosslare for collection??
There's at least one Russian chap who does that. EBay stuff is delivered to an address in London and a Polish registered tilt flatbed runs a weekly shuttle into Russia. VAt? Customs Duties? What's that?
SWMBO sold vast quantities of yarn that way. Around £100 worth and completely trouble free. Knitting machine went to Lithuania!
Hi, I remember reading a post on a forum by an ebay ex-employee a number of years ago, who said that is exactly what ebay wanted. They didn't want private auction sellers on there, they wanted to be a go to retail site like Amazon. And lo it has come to pass.
Colin
Imo it's generally amazon vs eBay for most generic stuff.
Aliexpress and wish.com are slightly different, they're specifically and exclusively for far East sellers selling to cheapskates
I'm in the same boat got loads to sell but I will not go back to ebay again I don't have an account anymore and just advertise locally.I've got a load of tools and others bits to sell but can't bring myself to use Ebay now as I'm paranoid I'll get stitched up with their anti seller rules!
They have started sending me offers of 80% off variable selling fees whatever that means and "faster payments"
Seems like the private seller backlash has started to bite!
