shenion Tool Pack Rat Messages 7,586 Location Stone Mountain, GA USA Jun 29, 2008 #5 You can get better clamps. The Clarke one is ok, but the clamping force is weak. I like the Lenco style claps. They are solid bronze/brass with a real strong clamping force. I have 2, one actual Lenco and a Chinese clone. Bothe work great. I got them off ebay.

Hitch Moderator Staff member Messages 13,280 Location England Jun 29, 2008 #6 Just cut the old one off, strip the cable back, and put the new one on. Some you might need a heavy duty ring terminal to crimp onto the cable. A few quid should sort you out a reasonable one.

sharkey Just this guy, y'know. Messages 26 Jun 30, 2008 #8 Warm is okay, but "almost burnt my hand" is HOT. I'd agree with the other replies, if the clamp is a cheap sheet-metal construction, replace it with a proper one, you'll get a much better connection. The other thing to remember is to make sure the metal where you're clamping is nice and clean, hit it with a flap disc if necessary. -----sharks

shenion Tool Pack Rat Messages 7,586 Location Stone Mountain, GA USA Jun 30, 2008 #9 Here's the Lenco style clamps I have. They work well: It is a 300A clamp. Almost takes 2 hands to compress spring to open more than 1" They werk well.
