I fitted a conversion kit to an older mountainbike last year (36 volt, cadence sensing), it worked great and did 1500kms in 6 months. Power delivery was crude and when it got up to speed the power shut off sharply.
This year I kept the battery and motor but swapped the controller for a torque sensing type, power delivery is a lot smooter. Both types work but when you've used both you realise they feel very very different.
There's a great forum with lots of advice and experienced folk https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/whats-new/
