EBay take a slice of it. EBay can't take a slice of the postage cost. So it's beneficial for them to bump up free postage in the listing.

So if you knock two quid on postage and do the item two quid cheaper. You'll be a few pence better off.

They can...they hadn't used to. But people sold items for peanuts with stupidly high postage so they charge fees on postage now.

Used to sell a lot on eBay but they changed so much I gave up. Hardly even buy on there now.

I stopped selling about 10 years back and the postage thing was before then. Everyone used to sell for a couple of quid and charge stupid postage to avoid the fees. They cottoned on and now charge you a percentage of the whole transaction.

If you include a fee to collect they’ll take a percent of that as well

I dont like the change away from paypay for sales, ebay tend to hold monies for days , just sold an item, I listed as buyer collects or plus postage at cost , they bought through ebay , then werent happy as I wouldnt post untill funds actually in my bank , although I state delivery will be 5 days minimum . payment went in three days after sale so then buyer decided he will collect..awaiting him to arrive ..luckily buyer understood and has been reasonable about it.

The only time I've ever used Paypal to receive money was selling some air miles several years ago. About £1500 I think. Money arrived, but Paypal then informs me it is hanging on to it for 28 days in case the sender wants it back. Luckily I wasn't particularly in need of the money at the time.

I've got no issue with the new format tbh. Didn't have any issues getting my money. Don't sell much

buyer just arrived after, from northampton to southampton, couldnt have been nicer , checked item and 100% happy and was off to see a car in southampton which made his journey more worthwhile . all good .
