I got pulled in my Mini on the M4 when I was young. They had a good look round and found nothing amiss, but apparently my exhaust was 'a bit loud'.i got pulled in my van on the a19 .i was doing over the ton and slowed down when i saw the old bill he followed me for 2 miles then pulled me looked round the van and said get your silencer fixed its blowing i said no it isnt . he said it is . then i though ohh yes it is he let me go it wasnt blowing its a stainless 2 inch system virtualy blow through i was only insured as an 1100 not the2.1
Hahaha, thanks for all the info, I asked the insurance advisor and he told me it wouldn't matter if I went from a 1.1 to a 1L it is just because I've changed the engine, so if I had an rs2000 I could be insured on it for the same price and a 1.1 standard. Mad iknowRe-reading the op and I'm thinking what he is actually saying is:
Car is currently a 1.1 and he has had quotes for it as a 1.1 but also declared an engine swap to a 2l which has hiked the price massively.
He is now thinking if he swaps the engine, does the paperwork with the dvla, then gets new quotes he won't have to declare any modifications as the car will show up as a 2l
Although I see what he is getting at.. No.
Insurance companies ask for any modifications from standard so just because it has been notified to dvla it's still a modified car.
Just the same as if you added 20" wheels.
You would not need to tell dvla or anyone else about that apart from the insurance company.
Be very careful randomly tapping engine sizes etc into price comparison sites as they log info like that and it's very easy to get a fraud marker on you and that will push insurance prices to unbelievable levels.
If you must find out the price of adding extras or swapping engines use a public computer and not your own details.
Also, even if telling dvla did have some sort of 'make it standard' magic, the cost of insurance for a new driver is probably the extra 800cc rather than the modification.
Unfortunately 1.3 is the affordable limit for you for the next few years boy.
On the upside, you can touch 18yr old girls without being called a pervert so get in your 1.1 and stop complaining.
Not all of us!Police today wouldn't know what a Mk2 1976 escort is,it'll be older than them ffs
Plenty of petrol heads in the police more than happy to have a chat about your car and have a look at it. Just like insurance companies, not all out to persecute motorists.I got pulled in my Mini on the M4 when I was young. you answered your own question the log book needs to have the same details as the car being insured

That's what I was told, all the way back in '79 or so - but I don't remember it ever happening!Bear in mind once you turn 21 the cost of insurance drops a few hundred quid
If you're working in the northern half of the Emerald Isle right now - then you have my full sympathy - it must be a right nightmare!Plenty of petrol heads in the police more than happy to have a chat about your car and have a look at it. I never got a pull once, 6000 miles over 3 years, saw plenty of cops and they never even glanced at me. 3.5 Rover motor, home built chassis, Sherpa rear axle and brakes, home made front axle...... all carefully designed to look like a stock Morrris 8...
It had the correct motor on the V5, insured properly, but basically illegal by DVLA 8 point rules.
I am only 18 and have a 1976 mk2 escort which I'm currently restoring into a road rally car, the log book currently says it a 1.1L and I want to put a 2lt pinto,
