Well it was the aluminium bracket that holds the wing mirror on returning back to ore.

Jaguar seem to have made this car out of total junk!

Its a 2002 XK8, I've spent hundreds of hours on it since I bought it, it was a big mistake, it now feels like I have just about repaired everything on it, so was well p'ed off when this happened.

On top of that I got a stack of runs in the clear coat on the door I took it off to do, that will be another few hours to fix, ahhhhh! and I still have the other side to do. I will just mask round that mirror as its bound to be the same.

My 107 on the other hand has minimal rot and is not far off 40 years old.

BMW mirror 'stalks' do exactly the same - never seen one part completely like that 'though.

the small front after market lights i have/had on my van did that, made of same material no doubt, proberly as said, the road salt over the years,
